Shri Baba Kaladhari Ji

The Life and Legacy of Shri Baba Kaladhari Ji

Baba Kaladhari Ji was a highly skilled and influential personality. When the responsibility of the Gaddi (spiritual seat) fell upon his shoulders, he entrusted the care of the sacred penance grounds to his wife, Thakuri Devi, and set out for religious propagation. It is said that he traveled extensively on foot through villages and cities—from Hoshiarpur and Jalandhar to Amritsar and Lahore—spreading spiritual teachings. The name ‘Kaladhari’ left a deep impact on the hearts and minds of the masses.

In his very first year on the Gaddi, he established a new tradition by organizing the Baisakhi Mela on the Vaisakh Sankranti and the Maghi Mela on the Magh Sankranti. All of Punjab was moved by the spiritual grace (Kala) of Baba Kaladhari Ji.

His wife, Thakuri Devi, who later became famous as Mata Gaur, managed the affairs of the Gaddi even during her husband’s lifetime. She personally established the Sadavarat Langar (everlasting community kitchen) at the site with her own hands.
